How to support radiant skin: 5 practical tips

Your skin is one of the first things people notice about you. And supple, glowing skin not only feels comfortable, but also makes you look fresh and cared for. Do you want to give your skin that extra touch? In this blog, we share 5 practical tips that will help you support your skin inside and out.
Why does your skin get dry sometimes?
Your skin has a natural protective layer of oils and moisture. This layer retains moisture and protects against external irritants. This protective layer can be affected by:
- Showering or bathing too hot;
- Aggressive soap products;
- Dry air caused by heating or air conditioning;
- Drinking few fluids;
- Deficiency in essential nutrients.
- Weather conditions such as cold and wind.
5 tips for radiant skin
The right care will keep your skin soft, supple and fresh. These tips will help you support your skin's natural balance.
1. Shower smartly
Long, hot showers can break down your skin's natural oils. Opt for shorter showers (5-10 minutes) with lukewarm water. Use mild, pH-neutral soap without perfume or alcohol and pat your skin dry after showering. Immediately apply a caring cream for soft and supple skin.
2. Hydrate from the outside
After showering, your skin is still slightly moist. A good cream helps retain this moisture, keeping your skin feeling smooth and comfortable. Choose products with ingredients that retain moisture, such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin or ceramides. For extra care on dry patches, rich textures such as shea butter or coconut oil are fine.
3. Hydrate from the inside out
Your skin is your largest organ and, like the rest of your body, needs plenty of fluids. Therefore, drink enough water throughout the day. A handy rule of thumb is 1.5 to 2 liters per day, but this depends on the weather and how active you are. Moisturizing foods such as cucumber, watermelon and orange also help keep your skin hydrated.
4. Choose the right nutrients
Your skin, like the rest of your body, needs good nutrition. Various vitamins and minerals help keep your skin healthy:
- Vitamin A: contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.* You can find it, for example, in sweet potato, carrots and spinach.
- Vitamin C: contributes to normal collagen formation for normal skin function.* So eat oranges, kiwis or peppers a little more often for a serving of vitamin C.
- Zinc: contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.* Zinc is mainly found in oysters, beef and pumpkin seeds.
- Biotin: contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.* You get biotin through eggs, nuts and whole grain products.
Omega-3 and your skin
Don't forget the omega-3 fatty acids, either! Your body cannot make these essential fats itself, even though they are part of the cell membranes in your body. Also those of your skin.
Oily fish such as salmon and mackerel, as well as flaxseed and walnuts, are good sources of omega-3. Don't eat these foods regularly? Then an omega-3 supplement can be a valuable addition.
5. Ensure proper humidity
In the winter, heating dries out the air in your home; in the summer, air conditioning often does the same thing. And that dry air? It quickly draws the moisture out of your skin. A humidifier helps tremendously with this, especially in the bedroom where you spend a lot of time.
Don't have a humidifier? No problem! Just put a bowl of water on the heater or hang a damp towel in the room. Houseplants are also natural humidifiers. Another reason to bring some extra greenery into your home.
Finally, give your skin that little bit extra
Beautiful skin requires regularity. With attention, care and smart habits, you can help keep your skin looking radiant. Pampering your skin with the right products, sufficient hydration and a pleasant living environment really makes a difference. You'll find: a little extra care for your skin pays off handsomely!
